Migrantes Unidos made history with the first asylum seeker-led protest in Missouri. The protest marked the formal launch of MU’s 5 demand campaign covered by St. Louis Public Radio and Missouri Independent.
It reads: 1) No more ankle monitors, 2) No more abuse by ISAP staff, 3) Return confiscated home country passports, 4) Allow free movement within the United States, and 5) No more loss of work hours.
MU has observed clear indications that their cries for support have been heard. The morning of the protest, which took place outside of the ISAP office, ISAP canceled all scheduled check-ins and closed their office for the day. Congresswoman Cori Bush sent a representative to support MU during their protest and identified the return of home country passports as something she is uniquely positioned to address. Her staff have attended MU meetings and are working to urge the St. Louis ICE office to return the passports.
